Performance

Powering the 2016 Versa is the HR16DE, a 1.6-liter 16-valve four-cylinder engine that puts out 109 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 107 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 RPM. While the engine on the S trim is hitched to a five-speed manual transmission, the engine on the SV and SL is mated to the Nissan Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which eliminates gear shifting and heightens the feeling of comfort and convenience in driving. With a front-engine/front-wheel-drive layout, the 2016 Versa provides a fuel economy that is EPA estimated at 27/36 mpg on the S and 31/40 mpg on the SV and SL: numbers that put the vehicle near the top of the subcompact class.

Interior

Designed as a four-door sedan, the 2016 Nissan Versa is a roomy five-seater, with a passenger volume measured at 90.1 cubic feet. Also on the vehicle is 14.9 cubic feet of cargo space, with 60/40 split fold-down capability on the SV and SL rear seats to expand it. Other enhancements on the aforementioned trims include six-way (instead of four-way) manual adjustability on the driver's seat, upgraded cloth seat trim, chrome-accented door handles and center vents, and silver-accented shift knob and dashboard. On the SL, Nissan adds leather wrapping on the steering wheel.

Features

For entertainment, the 2016 Versa comes with a four-speaker stereo system, which includes AM/FM radio, CD player with MP3 and WMA playback, illuminated steering wheel-mounted controls, Radio Data System, and audio jack for hooking up mobile devices. A USB port is added on the SV and SL; and the later also gets Bluetooth streaming audio capability and a three-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription. Also, in addition to Bluetooth hands-free calling, the top-of-the-line SL trim gets comfort and convenience features like hands-free text messaging, rearview monitor, NissanConnect information integration system, and a navigation system with 5.8-inch color touchscreen display and voice recognition.

Safety

Auto collision protection on the 2016 Nissan Versa is provided by dual front impact airbags and dual seat-mounted side impact airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as dual roof-mounted side curtain airbags for head protection of all occupants. Also on the vehicle is electronic vehicle stability, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock braking with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring. For security, the new Versa has a vehicle immobilizer system.
