The 2016 Nissan Sentra vs MINI Cooper. What's Your Choice?
Serving Hilton Head, Hardeeville, Bluffton SC
More than ever, small cars appeal to the public: not just because they are fuel efficient and economical. They also tend to be stylish, fun to drive, and demonstrate their agility in the smallest or densest of areas. Consider the Nissan Sentra as one of the top offerings in this segment; debuting in 1982, it is currently in its seventh production cycle with its 2016 model year. Also a top offering is the MINI Cooper, which has been around for much longer in various incarnations and has become somewhat of an icon for the melding of British mini-car heritage with German engineering precision from its manufacturer BMW. Intimidating as it is, the 2016 Nissan Sentra refuses to concede certain advantageous attributes to the 2016 MINI Cooper.
Reliability
The 2016 Nissan Sentra ranks above the 2016 MINI Cooper in terms of reliability - an important distinction. According to J.D. Power and Associates -- an information services firm best known for its car reliability ratings, the Sentra gets a 3 out of 5 possible Power Circles, which is virtually better than most. By comparison, J.D. Power awards the Cooper 2.5 out of 5 possible Power Circles.
Performance
With the 2016 Nissan Sentra, you don't need to downsize to anything to get ample fuel efficiency. On the four-door sedan is a MRA8DE: a 1.8-liter 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine that provides 130 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 128 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 RPM. With low rolling resistance tires-as fitted on the FE+S-you can achieve a peak fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon (mpg) when driving in the city. The 2016 MINI Cooper actually has a smaller, 1.3-liter inline three-cylinder engine. However, it falls short of its Nissan counterpart in the city, with up to 29 mpg.
Audio Features
The 2016 Nissan Sentra offers an upgraded audio system that is unavailable on the 2016 Mini Cooper. Select the upper-level SR or SL trim, and you can replace the six-speaker audio system-a standard on both vehicles-with the eight-speaker Bose Premium Audio system, which includes two powerful subwoofers. The Bose set-up is accompanied by other standard infotainment features, which include Radio Data System, a USB port and auxiliary audio input for mobile devices, illuminated steering wheel-mounted controls, and speed-sensitive volume control.
